Welcome to our home. The Kiwanis Club of Covington is a club rich in tradition and service. The Kiwanis Club of Covington has been extremely active in our community since it was founded in 1927. We do many things to support our whole community, and especially the children of our community. We currently provide scholarships to Newton County High School students, scholarships to students selected to attend the UGA Mock Trial Law Academy, and scholarships to participants in the Arts Association of Newton County. We have sponsored the Newton County Star Students for about 50 years. We sponsor Key Clubs at Newton High, Eastside High, Alcovy High, and Covington Christian Academy. Additionally, we sponsor Circle K Clubs at Oxford College of Emory University and Emory University. We also recently chartered the first Builder's club in Newton County at Covington Christian Academy.
We support several services projects and programs in Covington and Newton County including:
The Miracle Field project, ringing the bell at Christmas for the Salvation Army, the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program, Boy Scout Troop 222 (for 75 years), the Great American Cleanup, the Rivers Alive Cleanup, Trick-or-Treat for Unicef, Twilights at Chimney Park, the Georgia High School Mock Trial Competition, and the Covington Christmas Parade. Additionally, we built the Kiwanis Pavilion by the lake at Turner Lake Park that is enjoyed by so many children and families each year.
We were awarded the 2011 ‘Shining Light’ Award in recognition of our many years of dedication to this community.
Our club members are active in local churches and many other community service activities including the Salvation Army, Girl Scouts, Boy Scout Troop 222, American Legion, Hospital Auxiliary, Miracle League Fundraisers, Georgia High School Mock Trial Program, Newton County Community Band, School Book Drives, Preschool Reading, Washington Street Community Center, Atlanta Area Council of Boy Scouts, Eagle Scout Boards of Review, Newton Mentoring Program, Newton Reads, and teaching Sunday School.
Members include men, women, judges, doctors, lawyers, educators, businesspeople, bankers, city officials, community service workers, financial advisors, high school principals, ministers, reporters, accountants, retirees, working moms, parents, grandparents, and others. Our members range in age from about 26 to about 94. Many are truly giants in our community.
If making a positive impact in the lives of children and members of your community is something you have a calling for, we’d love to meet you. The Kiwanis motto is, "Serving the Children of the World", and our particular focus is helping locally. We keep our community in our hearts, and we participate in many service projects and fund raising activities in order to build up our local community.
You are welcome to visit periodically as we update this site with the most current happenings in our club. If you have a desire to change the lives of Children and build some life-long friendships along the way, please contact us. We meet every Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church of Covington, 1113 Conyers Street SW, Covington, Georgia.
